BMW X3 Review
The BMW X3 is the German automaker’s entry-level SUV and has been on sale in the Indian market for over four years now. In that time it has revised the SUV at least twice and then began its local production.
Exterior
The 2015 BMW X3 is an evolution of the current car, being so, its overall design is more of a continuation than a new model altogether. It gets new bumpers, a slightly revised grille, redesigned mirrors, new body colour options and an update for the alloy wheels.
The silhouette is the same as before and includes the rear sloping roofline, forward sloping stance, flared wheel arches and large wheels which give the car a squat stance. There is now a strong shoulder line that runs under the door handles dividing the side section of the SUV.
The rear is dominated by BMW’s signature wrap around tail lamps and a single oval exhaust pipe which has been integrated into the bumper. The shape of the hatch door has been revised slightly and includes a crease towards the bottom as well as just above the BMW logo.
Interior
The overall layout of the interior remains the same as the outgoing model but gets much more premium appeal thanks to the chrome accents, coverable cup holders and new panelling. The HVAC display is completely new and the optional navigation system has been replaced by a new re-engineered unit.
Engine and gearbox
Mechanically the X3 will use the same Twin-Power 2.0-litre diesel engine which has been tuned to offer more power and efficiency and will be mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The engine now puts out 187bhp and 400Nm of torque in the xDrive.
Price and competition
The X3 competes with Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 in the premium luxury segment.
