Skoda Yeti Review

The Skoda Yeti facelift was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in India in February. The Yeti was never taken seriously due to its offbeat looks despite being excellent in almost all other areas. The new facelifted Yeti strives to change this perception as it plays safe in the design department and is expected to attract the attention of a larger audience.
Exterior
The new Skoda Yeti has borrowed many design cues from the recently updated Skoda siblings like the Octavia and the Superb. The refreshed Yeti gets many styling changes to give it a fresh look. The front shows a new face that features sharper bi-xenon headlamps with integrated day time running LED lights, a revised grille, the new logo and the newly designed bumper which houses the horizontally placed fog lamps. The company has left behind the round shape identity of the previous model to make way for the latest sharp and modern design philosophy for the updated model.
The car gets 16-inch alloy wheels in a new design pattern. This pattern is different for both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions setting them apart from each other. Moving to the back of the car, the most evident change is the new C-shape to the tail lamps. There are some minimal changes including the 3-D triangle shaped cuts on its boot gate around its number plate. Skoda is also offering contrasting color roof option for the new Yeti.
Interior
The updated Yeti comes packed with features such as keyless entry, push button start, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver seat, power folding ORVMs, Varioflex flexible seating layout, adjustable steering wheel, touch screen audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, eight speakers and audio controls on its three spoke leather wrapped steering wheel. Other premium and safety features include cruise control, tyre pressure monitor, hill hold and descent control, traction control, ESP, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist and as many as six airbags.
Engine and Gearbox
This facelifted car will continue to be powered by the same set of engine options on the previous model but in two states of power tune. The 2.0-litre diesel engine which produces 108bhp and 250Nm of torque in the front-wheel-drive version will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The other all-wheel-drive version will be powered by the 2.0-litre motor that churns out 138bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. This mill is paired to a six-speed manual transmission. While the 2WD version has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17.72kmpl, the 4WD model has a fuel economy of 17.67kmpl.
Price and Competition
Priced at Rs 18.63 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra) for the Elegance 4X2 variant and Rs 20.14 lakh for the Elegance 4X4, the Yeti costs more than the Duster and the XUV, but it is cheaper than the Fortuner and the Santa Fe. Realistically it has no competition at its price; except its own sibling, the Octavia.
